Oaklawn Claiming Partnership

IMG_5733.jpg

After losing one of our favorite mares to a claim at Churchill Downs this fall, we're looking to add one back to our Arkansas/Kentucky string. There's plenty of great racing ahead this year - Churchill Downs, Kentucky Downs and Keeneland, and LBB Stables wants to be a part of it. We'll be looking to claim a quality runner at Oaklawn Park this winter, with our trainer Randy Morse.

Our Trainer: Randy Morse

Randy grew up on the racetrack and his father, W.R. "Charlie" Morse, was also a trainer. He worked various jobs on the backstretch—hot walker, groom, foreman, stable agent—and was galloping horses at age 15. Morse scored his first win as a trainer in 1981. He has been responsible for several multiple graded stakes winners. In 2014 he saddled Moonshine Mullin   to win the Stephen Foster Handicap (G1) at Churchill Downs, the horse's final start. Moonshine Mullin was a $40,000 claim seven months earlier. Morse also trained millionaire and Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap (G2) winner Jonesboro , and grade 3 winners Morluc , Testify, and Fan the Flame .

The Game Plan

  • With a long Oaklawn Park meet ahead of us and some great Kentucky racing this spring, we're looking for a runner with some upside and provide us with some fun and excitement. We'll be lookin for a claim in the $25-35K range to do so.

  • We work closely with Randy to identify a runner for LBB Stables that provides the most opportunity for success in Arkansas and potentially into Kentucky for the spring and summer.

  • If you choose to join us during the claiming process, you are part of the collaborative process and kept up to date on who our claim targets are and our rationale behind them . We communicate often, and are very patient and deliberate, so we get this right! We do NOT want to swing and miss.

  • Lastly - have a lot of fun! Yes, there's a lot of work that goes into it all, and plenty of patience and luck, but we have a great group of local Partners to hang out with too. You'll get a chance to visit in the morning and have a blast on race days. This is truly an opportunity for the everyday race fan to get involved in ownership at very reasonable investment levels.
